Teddy Van Winkle

Teddy Van Winkle is a first-year graduate student at the University of North Texas pursuing a Master of Music degree in Instrumental Performance.

Teddy received his Bachelor of Music in Music Performance from the University of Iowa under the tutelage of Dr. Jonathan Allen, graduating summa cum laude with university honors and honors in music. A trombonist by trade, Teddy was known to actively perform with many ensembles, including the Hawkeye Marching Band, Johnson County Landmark, the Symphony Band, and even toured with his own chamber group, the Riverslide Trombone Quartet.

While at the University of Iowa, Teddy maintained an active private community lesson studio, was a member of the Iowa School of Music Student Advisory Council, NAfME, the Iowa Bandmaster’s Association, and was the founder and president of the University of Iowa Trombone Association. He also served as the Iowa School of Music’s digital marketing assistant.

As a musician, Teddy has performed extensively in the Midwest, including with the Grinnell Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Iowa, the 2020 CBDNA North Central Division Conference, and appeared as guest soloist with the Muscatine High School Wind Ensemble. As an administrator, Teddy served as the performer relations intern for Summer of the Arts in Iowa City, IA, and as the music production intern for Horizon Arts and the Orchester Wiener Akademie in Vienna, Austria. As an educator, he has led numerous clinics and masterclasses in the Southeastern Iowa area, conducted the Muscatine High School show band, and taught general music classes in Nakorn Ratchasima, Thailand.
